How It Works
Stump grinding is a process used to remove the visible portion of a tree stump after a tree has been cut down. It involves a specialized machine called a stump grinder, which has a rotating cutting wheel with sharp, durable teeth. The operator moves the grinder back and forth across the stump, and the spinning wheel chips away the wood layer by layer, grinding it down into small wood chips. The machine can be adjusted to grind the stump several inches below ground level, allowing the area to be covered with soil, grass, or landscaping afterward. Unlike full stump removal, stump grinding does not extract the entire root system, but it effectively eliminates the stump’s presence above ground and prevents it from becoming a tripping hazard or attracting pests.
